Director Yoon Suk-Ho's "Endless Love" Seasons - Joe

Korean Director Yoon Suk-Ho presents his K-Drama masterpiece Winter Sonata (2002), the most popular of his “Endless Love” seasons, which also includes Autumn In My Heart, Summer Scent and Spring Waltz. His sensitive use of European classical and Korean pop music, his visions of beautiful scenery combined with innovative editing and pacing, keep the stories interesting and entertaining. All the series are in Korean with English subtitles. The pop songs are infectious and grow on you. If you enjoy the music, I’d highly recommend collecting OST (original soundtrack) CDs available from,,, etc.

Winter Sonata (2002) stars Choi Ji-Woo, Korea’s leading actress who made this series just before her widely popular series Stairways to Heaven (2003), as Yu-Jin. The story involves her relationship with childhood friend Sang-Hyuk and the aloof math genius Joon-Sang. Yu-Jin eventually falls for Joon-Sang, but he dies unexpected in a car accident. Ten years later, Yu-Jin is an interior decorator and is working with Min-Hyung, an award winning architect, who looks similar to Joon-Sang. Can Yu-Jin forget about her first love and find romance? It’s all about “first love”. This series is unforgettable with its moving conclusion. Beautiful soundtrack with romantic piano music. Highly recommended and get lots of Kleenex boxes.  My favorite song is "From Beginning To End".  Check out this link:

Autumn In My Heart (2000) is about a hospital mix-up with switched baby daughters for two families from opposite sides of the track. The daughters are eventually returned to their rightful parents with resulting emotional turmoil, especially for the brother and sister siblings, who are now unrelated! The two families go their separate ways. Years later, the former ex-siblings meet again with dramatic consequences for everyone involved. Beautiful music and lovely songs.  Recommend many Kleenex boxes.

Summer Scent (2003) involves a budding architect whose fiancĂ©e dies in an accident, whose donated heart saves a frail girl. After 3 years, he’s trying to move on with his life when he meets this girl, who's a florist, and is attracted to her. Who does he really love and can he find romance again? Complications abound when they’re thrown together on a remodeling project at a country resort. And what a sublime ending.  The soundtrack has some infectious music and songs. Recommend Kleenex boxes.
Spring Waltz (2006) was filmed in Austria in winter and Korea with breathtaking scenery and cinematography, shot in the colors of springtime. The story involves a con man and his young son who returns to his home town on a remote island. He meets an old friend and her young frail daughter. The young boy and girl are immediately attracted to one another. A chain of events causes the death of the girl’s mother and the disappearance of the man and son. Years later, while traveling in Austria, the girl, Eun-Young, meets the manager of a talented eccentric Korean pianist, Yoon Jae-Ha, and falls for the pianist.  The pianist's childhood friend as well as recording executive, Ina, is also smitten by Jae-Ha.  All four will return to Korea to work on a CD recording project. This starts a new chain of events that unravels all their lives.
The soundtrack has lots of waltzes and beautiful music composed by Chong Park.and Yiruma (who does a cameo on DVD Disc 4 Episode 10). Also, there are two versions of the CD soundtrack.  See Favorite Soundtracks for a lengthy discussion.  Recommend Kleenex boxes.
