Main Street [Colin Firth, Orlando Bloom, Patricia Clarkson, Amber Tamblyn, Ellen Burstyn and Andrew McCarthy head a fine cast in this drama about a decaying small Southern town that is visited by a mysterious stranger who promises to revitalize the ecomony. John Doyle directed. 2011.]

Page Eight  [Bill Nighy (The Girl in the Cafe) gives a marvelous, subtle yet multi-layered performance as an aging MI-5 agent who has his share of problems: a cryptic boss/best friend who gives him a mysterious confidential file to read,  a daughter and ex-wife who do not understand him, and a beautiful neighbor who has taken a sudden, unexpected interest in him. All these troubles converge when he uncovers a nasty government conspiracy. David Hare (Designated Mourner) wrote and directed this fine character-driven BBC spy thriller in the tradition of John Le Carre's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People.  Rachel Weisz is stunning and alluring as always as the intriguing neighbor.  The amazing supporting cast includes Holly Aird, Ewen Bremner, Judy Davis, Tom Hughes, Felicity Jones, Marthe Keller, Saskia Reeves, Alice Krige, and Michael Gambon,  Note: this DVD version contains the uncensored UK version that was not screened on PBS. Highly recommended!]
