New Releases - October 2, 2012

Blu-rays:

Dark Shadows [2012][Johnny Depp adds yet another bizarre performance to his resume in this dark comedy version of the cult horror TV soap opera. Depp plays an aristocratic vampire who comes back to life in 1972 and finds his dysfunctional heirs living in his old mansion. In this fish out of water farce directed by one of Depp's favorite directors Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland, Ed Wood, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), the emphasis is on campy, over-the-top humor. The great cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley and Chloe Grace Moretz.\

Hole, The [2012][Underrated and truly scary little horror tale starring Chris Massoglia and Nathan Gamble as two young brothers who discover that the basement in their new home has a hole that goes on for eternity. When they discover its secret, they and hot girl next door Haley Bennett join forces to try to vanquish an unholy terror. Teri Polo and Bruce Dern co-star. Joe Dante (Gremlins, Innerspace) directed this cult film that got little release but will hopefully get a much longer life on video.]
